The generous Northern Soul spice bag was enough for 2–3 people, with nicely seasoned chippy chips, flavourful chicken and one of the creator’s favourite curry sauces. They wished it had more meat and more options, but said it completely satisfied their craving for British Chinese food.
The creator tried the loaded Monday Munch, a mix of Chinese takeaway and Irish pub-style food, including a potato cake, curry sauce, fried rice and chicken tenders. They said it was all delicious and that the potato cake took them back.
The creator says its potato cakes are tied with SPK’s for the best they’ve had in Australia.
The spice bag was piping hot, crispy and generously seasoned, with tasty chips and vegetables covered in sauce. The creator said the curry sauce could have been more flavourful and noted a 30–40 minute wait.
Their score: 8.5/10
They loved the flavourful Irish spice bag, but thought the potato cakes needed more seasoning and were disappointing overall. The table was split on the venue.

Summarized with Gemini · ReportThe Potato cakes were $2.50. Very good value. The service was very good. The only down fall is if you want to eat inside, it’s very squishy at lunchtime and not much room to walk around. Also it takes 20 ish minutes to get the food if you go at a busy time. Overall, it’s very good place and recommend if you want to try one of the best potato cakes in Melbourne.
Had the Wigan Casino with a side of chippy gravy, plus a potato cake, and wow… the portion was HUGE 😂 I definitely should have shared it with my friend instead of pretending I could finish it myself. The fish and chips were delicious, and the potato cake was a great addition, but the absolute star for me was the gravy. So rich, savoury and ridiculously good — I could happily have had extra just for dipping everything into it. Proper comfort food and a very satisfying lunch. Would definitely come back (and next time, I’m sharing!).
I ordered the Spicebag and the potato cake. I must admit that the potato cake with the shrimp cocktail seasoning was very delicious. However, the Northern Soul Spicebag didn't have many chickens. I think I only had about 5 pieces and the rest was fries. There wasn't much salt and pepper flavour to the whole dish as well. I hope they can improve and make it amazing next time.
